Gui Mendes

Gui Mendes was born in Rio Claro, Brazil and began training jiu jitsu at the age of 12 years old. After winning the World championships in the blue, purple and brown belts, Gui received his black belt from Ramon Lemos in 2009. Gui won his first black belt World title in his very first year as a black belt.

In 2014 after 6 years as a black belt Gui achieved his goal of winning 4 black belt World titles and announced his retirement from competition to focus exclusively on building the AOJ team. In 2022 he was inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame. In 2012 Gui co-founded the Art of Jiu Jitsu with his brother Rafael and PM Tenore and since then has created world champions at every age and belt level.
